Saint Laurent Ad Campaign Fall 2013
After huge re-imaging (rebranding? recreating? re-concept-ing?) by Hedi Slimane, Saint Laurent looks cooler than ever (at least cooler than few seasons ago). Thanks to Hedi’s reputations that invited critics (both good and bad) (ah, and an open letter which involved Raf Simons from Dior!) from bloggers all over the world. Personally, I half-like the collection, I think it’s a really cool concept to mix high fashion and punk couture, but the results are too…wearable for my taste. Anyway, I am not going to talk about the collection. It’s over! We are moving on to the next season! And before that…time to see the fall 2013 ad-campaign!
It’s a good thing for Saint Laurent to hire a designer who is also a fashion photographer. No need to spend more money hiring cocky photographer and fight about concepts or which models they should use whatsoever. Hedi photographed the ad campaign by himself, featuring the infamous Cara Delevingne and Cole Smith. The result is a mixture between Parisian couture and American-punk attitude (again). Not bad….not bad. I have to praise Cara because she is able to leave all her funny expressions (trust me, she has tons of it) and give her real high-fashion model face. No smile, no laugh, no too-much-teeth (!), and a lot of scary, sharp eyes that can scare even the fiercest lion (um, not sure if lion can understand high-fashion, but you get the point).
But I think it would be much better if Hedi eased the black and white things, I really want to see the clothes’ colors. Yeah, who cares about art nowadays? Who? Who?!!?
